General
What makes Informed Investing different?1. We fully test all our ideas to make sure they're valid. 2. We fully disclose our strategies so you can make educated, informed decisions. 3. We'll never make false or mis-leading claims about any strategy we publish. 4. We provide a unique strategy health check that helps identify when things are no longer working as expected.
Why should I believe the information provided here?We encourage you to carefully review our performance figures and facts. While we don't have any independently-audited results for you to review, we have based our company on a set of values with honesty and integrity being on top of the list. As you do additional investment research, we believe you'll find strong independent evidence of the principles included in this strategy - asset allocation, buying strength, diversification, and regular portfolio re-balancing.
Are you a registered investment advisor? No, we're not an investment advisor. We are not registered as an advisor, nor do we have any insight into your own unique situation. We are an investment information publisher, and our goal is to further inform and educate you on various investment concepts and strategies. If you're un-certain what to do, we encourage you to consult an investment advisor.
Why do you think you can perform better than advisers or firms that have been in the business for many years and are very reputable? For starters, a number of firms and advisers charge steep fees, particularly when compared to our low subscription rates. Their performance must first overcome these fees just to be competitive with the market. Be sure you know what these fees are, and how much they cost you each year. Another thing we've discovered is that there's a tendency to complicate things that don't have to be complicated. By introducing complexity into models, it's easy to lose track of the basics which have been demonstrated to provide value not just by us, but by others as well. Finally, we have no bias as to which funds or investment products that you own, since we're in no way compensated by the fund companies. As soon as you're working with someone that is partially compensated based on what they advise you to invest in, you have a potential conflict of interest. Many advisers, even if they don't work on pure commissions, may have a bias toward one fund company (perhaps the one they work for) or a set of specific funds. We've tried hard to avoid this very important issue. We strongly suggest that you ask them to provide a track record that you can understand, along with all the rules associated with how it was achieved. Be informed!
What if I follow this strategy and lose money?Unfortunately, past performance is no guarantee of future results. It is always possible to lose money while investing, and as our hypothetical back-tests clearly show, this strategy also suffers draw-downs like nearly any bond or equity fund investment. We provide this information "as-is", and cannot provide warranties or performance guarantees of any kind. Please refer to our full disclaimer here.
What if the strategy stops working? As with any investing strategy, this is always a possibility. As a result, we update our strategy health check each week so that all registered users and subscribers can see if the strategy is still operating within the boundaries discovered during our testing. Even with the health check, it's still a very real and likely possibility that investments based on the strategy will decrease in value. Unfortunately, risk (i.e., losing money) and reward are tightly intertwined, and there's simply no way to avoid this possibility.
Do you have any other strategies for me to consider? We're always exploring other strategies that could complement the Cornerstone Fund Investing Strategy. When we believe our research is sound, we'll publish other strategies as well. At this point, while we're exploring several possibilities, we believe it would be pre-mature to post information about them now.
You call for quarterly re-balancing. Will I have to pay short-term capital gains taxes? In accounts that are not tax-advantaged (e.g., a standard brokerage account), you will likely have to pay short-term capital gains on any shares that are sold for a profit. It's impossible for us to know your tax situation, but you can find a lot of information at other investment web sites, the Fidelity and Schwab web sites, or by consulting your tax advisor.
What percentage of my overall portfolio should I place in this strategy? This is a difficult question for us to answer, because each investor's own situation is unique. For most people, we suggest that you start small, until you've gained some confidence in the strategy and can compare it with your other investments. You'll also get a sense for how it works, how quickly it adapts to market conditions, etc. Please do not take this as advice, since we don't know you're personal situation. If uncertain about what to do, please perform additional research or consult an advisor that can be of further help.
Subscribers
Can I share strategy fund picks with friends or family? No. Your subscription is for your personal use only. We've priced our subscription at a point where abuse of this policy would force us to raise our subscription prices. We fully test all our ideas to make sure they're valid. If you have any questions, please contact us.
Can I cancel my subscription? You may cancel at any time. Your ability to log in and use our services will continue until your subscription period expires. Due to the high costs associated with partial subscription period refunds (i.e., you cancel your subscription part-way through the subscription period), we do not provide refunds as a matter of policy. We also find that some people would sign up to gain access to our full research manual, only to un-subscribe the next day.
My subscription is getting close to expiring - do I have to do anything? No. As long as your PayPal account is in good standing, your subscription will be automatically renewed. The status of your subscription can be viewed by logging in and checking to see how many days your current subscription is good for.
Do you ever see my accounts at Fidelity of Schwab? No. Placing actual orders to buy, sell, or exchange funds is up to you. We'll never ask to see any of your personal account information. Placing order with either Fidelity or Schwab can be done at their web sites, or by contacting them via telephone. Note that in many cases there may be extra fees associated with rep-assisted orders (phone), so we recommend that you familiarize yourself with their web functionality and place order in that manner. Again, this is of course up to you.
How do I reset my password?Log in and select "Profile" from the User Menu. At the top of your user profile, press the Edit button, and then choose the Edit Your Profile option. You may then update your password. You can of course edit any other contact information or other information found within the 2 tabs.
