Historical Fund Picks - Fidelity U.S. Sector

The following table shows the Fidelity funds that were picked each quarter. For example, on 01/03/1995, FSDCX (Communication Equipment), FSPHX (Health Care), FSPFX (Paper and Forest Products), and FSCHX (Chemicals) were held. For the period ending on 4/3/1995, each of the funds returned 2.9%, 11.5%, 9.5%, and 6.6% respectively. When applying our money management rules, the aggregate return of these 4 funds resulted in a 7.6% return for the quarter. In comparison, the asset class as a whole (i.e.. the average of all funds in this asset class) returned 8.8%.

Keep in mind:

  • This back-tested scenario starts on 01/03/1995. The fund picks may have been different had we started on a different date (e.g., 01/15/1995).
  • The Port column shows how a hypothetical $1000 invested in the fund selections would have performed over time.
  • The Port Return column shows how the selected funds did during the quarter they were held. The Asset Class Return shows how the asset class in general performed.
  • You can easily do a symbol look-up at any of the financial web portals (e.g, finance.yahoo.com), or at Fidelity.com if you want to further research exactly what was held during certain quarters.
